Tours start from Dulverton, an ancient market town on the
southern border of the Exmoor National Park and from Minehead the resort
on the North coast. Our 110 Land Rovers take leisurely trails of discovery
through steep wooded valleys, and over the dramatic moors.
Barle Valley Safaris
Barle Valley Safaris was founded in 1998 by Alison Simms and Duncan Waller. Their Land Rover Defender now carries more than 2,000 visitors a year to experience the sights and less well known features of the Exmoor National Park.
Before settling on Exmoor Alison drove tourists on safari in the deserts and mountains of the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman for 20 years. She spoke colloquial Arabic and her knowledge of the customs and history of the Bedou made her a friend of the local people and a pioneer of tourism in that region. She became a well known figure in the Emirates through her journalism, photography and desert rallying.
Duncan was a Master Mariner who sailed the oceans for 20 years in merchant ships. Later, he was a marine consultant specialising in ship casualty investigations
for insurers. He was based in Dubai for many years and became an experienced '4x4' vehicle driver by necessity when required to attend stranded ships and polluted shorelines on the remote coasts of the Arabian peninsula. Alison and Duncan have applied their many talents to studying the history, geography and natural life of Exmoor ensuring all their passengers enjoy a leisurely, informative and exhilarating trip in a safely driven Land Rover.

EXMOOR SAFARI
Imagine boarding the 8-person Landrover from the pretty Exmoor village of Exford and heading for parts of Exmoor undiscovered by the vast majority of people. Climb steep lanes and follow ancient byways. Witness meandering river valleys and emerge triumphant on high moorland with views that are truly panoramic.
The Severn Bridges to the east, The Brecon Beacons purple against the northern sky and to the south the horizon, punctuated by Dartmoor's granite ruggedness.
Now look more closely - is that a Red Deer? - look again, there are more - all
hinds ... oh, and there's the stag protecting the group.
Had you noticed the buzzard circling above, little wonder the young rabbit is being cautious. A flash of rust red - a fox on patrol.
Listen - what is that continuous bird song? See, high up in the sky - it's a skylark.
And of the Ancient Britons? The Romans? Of Folklore and country traditions?
Come and learn about them and be a part of Exmoor's natural richness.
